What was his relationship with LBJ like?
J:
It was a difficult one to describe. I thought it was close. Whenever Johnson--he'd be on
that telephone on the plane long before we got in sight of Bergstrom, calling A. W.,

Were communications different at the Ranch?
J:
Yes, communications were very, very different at the Ranch. We had the same basic
system of telephones with the White House operators answering. We would take several
- the Kennedy family; Adam Clayton Powell; a party LBJ hosted for congressional aides; staying at the LBJ Ranch; the telephone system used by LBJ and staff; radio communication at the Ranch; having picketers near the Ranch arrested and later invited to the Ranch
