- available, and he'd come into the state and he made friends. for the Vice Presidential nomination in 1956. Kefauver's name in nomination. he was always there. In fact, I put Estes But in spite of that-- I 'Has a candidate for governor that year--Kennedy
- step on anybody's toes. We listened to every candidate, including Senator [Estes] Kefauver, who had aspirations of being the nominee. We held our caucuses at the hotel, and some of the candidates asked for and received private meetings with Governor
- . And we met very seldom, and the reason we met very seldom was that everything that transpired was immediately telegraphed to Drew Pearson, and people like Estes Kefauver who were beholden to Drew Pearson for their support, they not only told their side
