Attorney General Ramsey Clark said there were indications that
the situation had been substantially exaggerated. He said he was aware
that at this time we do not know how extensive the damage is. The

writers on the Detroit riot and civil

Attorney General Clark said the President 1 s Commission is an excellent one.
He then gave a chronology of the Detroit riots beginning with his call from
Governor Romney and ending with the time when the troops were

responsibilities of officials in both of our Parties. It goes to the heart
of our society in a time of swift change and of great stress. I think
the composition of this Commission is proof against any narrowness
or partisanship.
