The attached appeared in today 1 s New York Times. It is
certain to stimulate a good deal of reaction. I think it
would be useful
- that it
will abate by the time of the celebration, which I understand
will involve high level representation from Latin American
countries.
Thus far, the Commission has received no answer from
either Conrad Wirth or his successor to Bernhard's letter of
October 25
- , the Governor's Assistant. We discussed at some length
the situation in Cambridge, Maryland and learned that the commun
ity is extremely tense and there could be an explosion of violence
at almost any time.
Tonight around 7:30, Dick Gregory, Mrs. Gloria
- been able to do
it on Monday, July 6, except for the fact that the President
remained in Texas on that day.
In any event, I assume I have to respond to the specific request
from CORE headquarters. The preferred time is early next
week.
