I am delighted to share a day with you
- Press release, "Remarks by Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson, Kentucky Federation of Women's Clubs Annual Convention in Lexington, KY, 5/21/1964"
- :
I am proud and excited by what I have seen here today
in Eastern Kentucky l We who come from other states think
of its great pion e ers of the past when we think of Kentuc ky ·
of bold and hardy folk, braving dang e rs, surmounting difficulties
- . Through it, they
have acquired a surer grasp on their sometimes-shc-.ky heritage
which promises them the right to the 'pursuit of happiness". They
are ppor; their families are larg e; there is usually one or no parent.
But this summer they have come
- as here twice in the spring and just a few weeks
a go my dau gfrie r, Lynda, cam e back from here full of praise and
admiration for Kentucky ' s famed hospitality.
Of course, we always fe e l clos~ to Kentu-:ky becaus e your
charming native daughter, Bess
