Monday, December ninth. Mary Lasker had come down from New York last night and spent the
night with us in the Queen’s Room

I awoke Monday morning in my dear fam iliar room, but no,
everything was changed—i t had the impersonality of a hotel room.
All of my things had been moved out over the weekend, packed for Texas.
