Sunday, December 10th, was a romantic, off-beat day.
I woke' a little before 9:00, asked for all the papers and a big pot of c.o ffee,

- & speeches; LBJ works hard with little rest; Johnsons to Democratic fundraiser that night; Lynda Robb relays news that Martin Luther King has been shot & died; LBJ calls Coretta Scott King & makes televised speech; evening plans cancelled & Hawaii trip
- Creole shrimp, plus party food. The guests left about 11:30,
and Lyndon went to night reading, and I to bed with my current book. I was delighted that he
had told Herman Jones that he wanted to appoint Bess to the first vacancy on the Committee
- Bird reminisces about reading "Peter Rabbit" to daughters; Spanish lesson; Military Reception; Baroness Maria Von Trapp is guest & she wants to take "Sound of Music" to Vietnam for servicemen; dinner upstairs with guests; Committee on Retardation
- Canadian Prime Minister Pearson gives speech about Vietnam; lunch with Pearson in Aspen Lodge; discussion is about Civil War and Lake Erie pollution; Lady Bird reads "Hurry Sundown" and goes for walk with Secret Serviceman Jerry Kivett; bowling
