I suggested
at that time that we form a non-profit corporation, as we have in
the case of other national parks.
I wrote a memo that went to
Mrs. Kennedy from the Associate Director of the Park Service proposing
- and the Rockefellers, particularly
Laurance Rockefeller. They would appear to be out of totally different backgrounds,
totally different political faiths, and yet there was an undeniably close association and
relationship. Is that something that you have thought about

list there. We started calling it the Lady Bird Association, Inc. at the time.
On my own I developed the list of potential board members, drawing on friends
and associates of the beautification program in Washington. Many of the people on the
