As I say, the fact of the matter is that to a great extent he did give us considerable
latitude, and the staff did not interfere excessively, in my judgment. I make a point of this
because it's something that has been discussed very recently since Nixon

that attitude I felt Senator Byrd was not going to go along with that
ticket, even though with Lyndon Johnson on it.
