of course because President Eisenhower talked me into going to work for
the State Department.

The state officials, except for John
White, either supported Eisenhower as [Allan] Shivers and Price Daniel

- know, we were running against Eisenhower, and
it was pretty much an uphill race.
It was quite difficult to even get speakers to represent the Democratic
position, particularly to try to educate and elevate the people of this
country to accept him
