In one of my half-a-dozen going-away press conferences when I
left the commission, I was asked at each one of them the same series
of questions like

He did this for
Kennedy in 1960 and on a smaller scale for Johnson in '64--to go in and
advance for the President, to meet with the local leaders and the press
and the opinion makers to find out
