The roadside parks were the first major statewide project we had and
the first in the United States.

Yes, that was the first NYA project.
FR:
It started under Jimmie Allred and the State Highway Department.
Lyndon made the contacts

take the combined efforts of the state and the federal government if
we did such a thing, particularly the Highway Department.
So we talked about it, and I was given the assignment to look
into this as a possibility.

I was always struck by the fact that whenever I got included in
some big affair out at the Ranch and it was a big affair, Senator
Tower was always there.
