Bio: Joseph A. Califano was trained as an attorney at Harvard Law School and practiced law with private firms as well as with the Office of the Judge Advocate General of the United States Navy. He served as Special Assistant to the General Counsel of the Department of Defense, as General Counsel of the Army, and as Special Assistant to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense. Mr. Califano was appointed as Special Assistant to President Lyndon B. Johnson and served as a top domestic aide. He served as the Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare under President Carter.
