Bio: Hugo LaFayette Black (1886-1971) was a judge for the Supreme Court of the United States. He was nominated by Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 12, 1937; confirmed by the Senate on August 17, 1937; and received his commission on August 18, 1937. He assumed senior status on September 17, 1971, but his service was terminated soon thereafter, with his death on September 25, 1971.
