Bio: Harry Ashmore (1916-1998) was executive editor, Arkansas Gazette, Little Rock, Arkansas; and Executive Vice President and later President, Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions, 1969-1974. He was a columnist and author and was active in civil rights.
