This collection consists of materials collected by Lyndon B. Johnson, his office staff, and his various campaign staffs. They relate to Johnson's campaigns for re-election as a United States Senator from Texas in 1954 and 1960, his campaigns for the Democratic Party's nomination for president in 1956 and 1960, his nomination as the Democratic Party's candidate for vice president in 1960, and the national 1960 Kennedy-Johnson campaign for the presidency.

After narrowly winning the Texas Democratic Party primary run-off election for the party's nomination as their candidate for the U. S. Senate in 1948, Lyndon B. Johnson began to work almost immediately to assure his re-election in 1954. This series reflects those efforts. This series includes sub-series related to the 1948 Senate election, Johnson's efforts to expand his constituency following the 1948 election, the 1952 presidential election, and Johnson's 1954 re-election to the Senate.
